Maintaining our gutters at home play a significant role in preventing water damage to our humble abode. We all know gutters are designed to channel the water away from the foundation. And they are significant in defending the structural reliability of our house. However, in order for our home gutters to do well and perform their job properly, they need to be taken care of, free from clogs, holes, sags, they always need to be in shape.

 Gutter Problems

Fortunately, for the most part, common gutter problems can be fixed by the homeowner themselves and it’s generally easy for them and indeed worth the effort. Doing a routine inspection and maintenance of the gutters can really help prevent major problems in the future. We can name a few gutter issues that the professionals see most often.  Though there are some that we can easily fix ourselves but there are specific problems that need assistance from the experts.  There’s a lot of highly recommended company in Portland that can help us out; this company cleaned my roof and gutters.

Pros recommendation for clogged gutters is to clean or check them at least once a year and a few more times if you many trees nearby and when a big storm strikes it is recommended to schedule gutter maintenance after, at least four times a year. Clogged gutters are the most known problem of all.  When left unattended and unchecked downspouts and gutters get clogged with debris that leaves them damage and later on useless. The excess weight debris like twigs, leaves and standing water can make the gutter pull away from the fascia and sag.

You can actually clean your own gutters at home only if you are comfortable with a ladder you don’t mind getting dirty and wet and of course if you don’t have an enormously tall house. After you have cleared the mess you can flush them using a garden hose in order to ensure they are flowing properly. If you don’t prefer to do the messy job you can hire someone to do the job for you. Another alternative in dealing with constantly clogged gutters is to set up gutter covers using clip-on grates, porous foam, and mesh screens. Though this still requires regular maintenance and the cost can actually be more than the cost of the gutters themselves.

Dealing with leaks and holes can be sealed by gutter sealant. Though larger holes may require a patch, if gutter patching kit is not available at the hardware store then you can make a patch out of metal flashing. Leaky gutter joints can also be sealed through caulking the joint from inside using a gutter sealant.

An improperly pitched gutter can also cause constant problems. Gutters must be pitched toward the downspouts in order for the water to properly flow. To correct this issue yourself first you will need to measure the gutter from the peak to the downspout then you use a chalk to mark between the two and then you find the part where is the gutter is not aligned.
